ABSTRACT

Cancer of the tongue is comparatively uncommon Estimates indicate such growths comprise only 1% to 2% of all human cancers. The statistics on the relative anatomic distribution of the mouth lesions obtained from 2,234 cases recorded in the New York Memorial Cancer Registry from 1949 through 1956 indicate that the primary lesion is located on the tongue in 39%. Authors report a clinical study of 19 cases of carcinoma of the tongue which were treated and confirmed pathologically at the Department of Otolaryngology, Daegu Presbyterian Hospital during last 2 years, with review of the literature.
