ABSTRACT |
Although countless surgical techniques have been devised for chronic middle ear disease, there is still little uniformity in surgical practice. Every case of chronic otitis media for which surgical treatment is proposed should be evaluated on the basis of whether the disease required a purely transcanal technique without removal of the tympanic sulcus and canal wall or whether, in addition, to some form of mastoidectomy will be necessary. Countless papers concerning about the middle ear surgery were presented since early 1950's and most ear surgeons have had experience of trying almost every type of technique. I should like to describe my personal experience and tried to systematize the surgical procedure for chronic ear disease. But in most aspect, the procedure to be discussed is not being presented as original, I have fused into one procedure many ideas that I have considered excellent from many techniques.
