ABSTRACT

Patient was a 20-year-old female who had chronic suppurative otitis media of 15 years' duration. Radical mastoidectomy was performed through retroauricular incision followed by removal of thrombus from the lateral sinus under the diagnosis of chronic suppurative otitis media with cholesteatoma and intracranial complication. Postoperative course was rather eventful. The abscess evacuated and irrigated through nelation catheter successfully, was later complicated by outflow of profuse amounts of cerebrospinal fluid. A sinogram with lipiodol injection revealed a free communication between the abscess at the cerebellar area and the ventricles. Inspite of vigorous, intensive treatment patient's codition deteriorated and succumbed on the 21st day folowing surgery.
