ABSTRACT |
This paper is concerned with trends in the prevalence of the early syphilis in E.N.T. clinic of Kyungpook National University Hospital, Taegu, Korea during 5 months from March 1965 to July 1965. 1) 16 patients among 3700 patients who visited to the clinic during 5 months were syphilitic cases. 2) All of them, 16 cases had angina erythematosus in throat. 3) Nearly four times in number of cases were seen in males than females. 4) 50% of patients occurred among the population under 29 years of age ; 12% in the age group of 15-20 years. 5) By the occupation, students (20%), soldiers (20%) clerks (12%), merchants (29%). 6) Manifestations of the other lesions ; 1 case was accompanied with primary chancre, 3 cases with reseola syphilitica, 4 cases with maculo-papullar syphilids, 8 cases with alopecia syphilitica. 7) All cases had no prophylaxis and were ignorant of V.D. 8) Lymphadenopathy was noted in all cases in bilateral side, 13 cases had inguinal adenopathy, 9 cases had axillary adenopathy. 9) All cases of them had positive V.D.R.L. Test. 10) Treponema pallidum was demonstrable in all cases on dark field examination. 11) All cases were treated with penicillin and remaining 1 case who showed transient penicillin hypersensitivity were treated with erythromycin respectively. 12) The lesions of all cases of angina erythematosa, primary chancre, roseola, maculo-papullar syphilids were cleand within 1 week of treatment, while alopecia syphilitica, hair growth was noted after 4 to 5 weeks of treatment. 13) Active V.D. control program is necessary and also education for venereal diseases.
