ABSTRACT

The authors performed uvulopalatopharyngoplasty(UPPP), modification of Fujita's method(1981), for obstructive sleep apnea syndrome and snoring. Our method was designed to enlarge the potential air space in oropharynx and also preservation of anatomical structure. Symptoms, such as snoring, daytime sleepiness, and apnea index were improved significantly ; snoring(94%), daytime sleepiness(86%), apnea index(86%). Postoperative complications, minor postoperative bleeding, wound dehiscence, dyspnea, rhinolalia aperta and oronasal reflex, were recovered spontaneously within 2 weeks, but a case of oronasal reflux, was managed by push back procedure.
