ABSTRACT |
Carotid Cavernous Fistula is very rare. The head injuries may directly damage the carotid artery or one of its intracavernous arterial branches. Recently the authors experienced a case of carotid cavernous fistula caused by facial trauma. Maxillofacial trauma is a common problem for the maxillofacial surgeon. We must have thorough knowledge of anatomy, reconstruction and potential complications. Definitive diagnosis is usually not difficult ; CT and angiography associated with clinical symptoms and signs of carotid cavernous fistula make early diagnosis and treatment possible. The authors recently experienced a case of carotid cavernous fistula following facial fractures. It was successfully treated with embolization. So, we report this case with a brief review of literatures.
